Nutrition and Your Teenager:
Foods, Fads and Phobias

Joyce Adams, M.D.
UCSD Clinical Professor of Pediatrics,
Audolescent Medicine Division

American teenagers are one of the many nutritionally confused groups in our society.  While advertisers promote a teenage diet f high fat, low nutrient fast foods, skeletal fashion models sell images of unrealistically thin "ideal bodies."  Dr. Joyce Adams' presentation will help us to help our teenagers make sense of food during this critical period of their growth and development.  Among the points to be addressed are:

  • How to use the "F word" (fat) when discussing body image and foods.
  • Can vegetarian diets be healthy for teenagers?
  • How do teenage fears lead to food fads?
