The following is a list of UCSD based programs developed and
operated through this division:
Perinatal/Parenting Case Management Program
The Perinatal/Parenting Case Management program was one of the first comprehensive
programs in California to provide outreach to mothers and their
children who have a substance abuse problem. This is a collaborative
with several community-based agencies funded and co-ordinated by the
San Diego Department of Health Services, Alcohol and Drug Programs.
UCSD is responsible for locating and supporting substance using
pregnant women to seek and obtain health care services, enter and
complete treatment for addiction. It reports a high rate of enrollment
for the target population (pregnant women) and infants born into the
project are drug free more than 90% of the time. We follow our
families for 18 months and assist their access to pediatric health care
with particular focus on prevention. Through a sub-contract with San Diego City Schools, case management is provided to teens by a registered nurse.
