Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program

Program Director: Yvette LaCoursiere, MD

Program Statistics

UCSD Medical Center and Kaiser Foundation Hospital together offer a wealth of clinical experience which encompasses all the subspecialties. The two obstetrical services offer a combined total of approximately 7,300 deliveries, 1,800 cesarean sections, and over 1,000 complicated pregnancies per year. The high volume high-risk services, under the direction of faculty perinatologists, offer a broad range of complications which will challenge and stimulate the residents' learning processes as they progress through the residency and takes on more responsibility for the care of these patients.

On the two gynecological services, there are approximately 2,300 major and 1,600 minor procedures performed each year, including approximately 750 abdominal and 180 vaginal hysterectomies, 790 operative laparoscopies, and 900 laparotomies. The program's rotations, which encompass the reproductive endocrinology-infertility, gynecology oncology, and urogynecology sub-specialties, offer a wide range of interesting and demanding clinical and surgical experiences for the residents.
