Women and Newborns: Great Expectations
During pregnancy
the CNM monitors, the health of you and your baby regularly and is prepared to teach as well as answer your questions about proper hygiene, exercise, sleep, travel, and how to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

During labor, the CNM evaluates your progress and is there to offer emotional support. You can also expect your CNM to make your family comfortable and part of the experience to the greatest extent possible. If at any time a problem arises, the CNM can call on a physician to assist in protecting you and your baby.

Follow-up care begins immediately at birth as the CNM examines the newborn, provides advice on breast-feeding, infant care and rejoices with you and your family in another healthy beginning.

Prescriptions for medications and/or vitamins can be written by CNM'S.

Regular gynecologic care: annual pelvic, breast examinations and Pap smears are also available by UCSD CNM'S.
