Welcome to UCSD's Department of Reproductive Medicine.  We are one of the finest academic departments in our specialty in the country.  We offer excellence in patient care, research, and teaching through our many highly trained academic faculty who are dedicated to their work.  Many of our faculty members have major leadership roles in some of the most important national organizations in our field, including the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the Association of Professors of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the Society of Maternal Fetal Medicine, the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists and the American Urogynecologic Society.  Our faculty have been presidents of national societies including the American Society of Reproductive Medicine, the American Urogynecologic Society and the American Gynecologic and Obstetrical Society.  Perennially, our faculty is well represented in the publication, The Best Doctors in America, and as Top Docs in San Diego Magazine. Our renowned specialists cover the gamut of our specialty from, high risk pregnancy management, fetal diagnosis and therapy, gynecologic oncology, urogynecology, infertility, as well as general gynecologic and obstetrical women's health care.

 

For patients, we offer comprehensive women's health care at multiple locations throughout San Diego for your convenience. The UC San Diego Medical Center is ranked first in the San Diego area by U.S. News and World Report.  For referring physicians, we offer a full scope of specialty and subspecialty faculty clinicians for consultation for your most difficult clinical problems.  More than 30 MD faculty members have specialty clinics devoted to high-risk pregnancy, diabetes in pregnancy, placental dysfunction, obesity in pregnancy, endometriosis, fibroids, menopause, cancer, complex contraception, family planning, incontinence, and prolapse.  Our obstetrical service provides the only in-hospital birthing center on the West Coast, managed by our experienced group of more than 10 clinical nurse midwives for that unique home birthing experience.  In 2016 we opened our beautiful new hospital, the Rady’s Women and Infants pavilion on the 8th, 9th, and 10th floors of the Jacobs Medical Center.  All the rooms are private, spacious, and offer beautiful views of the La Jolla area.  In this new location, we offer state-of-the-art care with the same cutting-edge expertise. Research is conducted in a wide variety of areas within the Department of Reproductive Medicine.  Individual faculty and groups of faculty have research programs which explore development, regulation, and control at the molecular, cellular, organ and system levels in the reproductive areas.  10 PhD faculty members are devoted to unlocking the mysteries of reproductive medicine throughout a woman’s life span.  The Department participates in prestigious and nationally recognized studies such as the Women's Reproductive Health Research Career Development Program and the Pelvic Floor Disorders Network.  In 2016, we ranked 3rd in the nation among departments of Ob/Gyn in NIH funded research  Please browse our research web pages and learn more about our outstanding researchers and their superior work.

 

We are committed to excellent education and training for medical students, residents, fellows and practitioners.  Our commitment to education has resulted in our residency and fellowship programs being among the most coveted in the nation.  We have accredited fellowship training programs in maternal fetal medicine, reproductive endocrinology, gynecologic oncology, female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery, and family planning.  We offer a wide array of continuing medical education programs addressing obstetric and gynecologic topics both locally and nationally.  Please visit the web pages that describe our training programs.
