Clinical Expertise

  • As a physician first, Dr. LaCoursiere holds herself to a high standard for providing outstanding clinical care.  She cares for women at the Medical Offices South Outpatient Clinic and on the inpatient obstetrics and gynecology services at the Jacobs Medical Center.  She aims to provide evidence-based, compassionate care.  She also specializes in providing consultative and comprehensive services to obese women and those pre and post bariatric surgery at UC San Diego’s Maternal Weight and Wellness Program.  She recognizes that she can contributions even more to the health and well-being of women by teaching tomorrow’s physicians and contributing to the obstetrics and gynecology literature.

 

 

Research Interests

  • Beginning her faculty career at the University of Utah, she returned to UC San Diego to complete the Women’s Reproductive Health Research (WRHR) Program and studied outcomes associated with maternal obesity.   As a WRHR scholar, she published the first population level study on the increasing statewide trends of maternal obesity and its impact of this increase on rising Cesarean and preeclampsia rates.  She enjoys working collaboratively and has multiple original publications, chapters and reviews.  Her original projects have described the association of obesity and postpartum depression, the impact of the obesity on the placenta and post-Cesarean thromboprophylaxis in obese women.  Dr. LaCoursiere has presented regionally and nationally on issues pertaining to maternal obesity. 

    Dr. LaCoursiere also enthusiastically serves as the Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Director.  She has participated in the APGO Scholars and Leaders Program and now serves on the APGO Technical Committee.  She is also an examiner for the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and serves as a reviewer for multiple journals.  She is currently a co-investigator on several N.I.H. grants including the transdisciplinary Prevention of Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms Consortium.
